Open air Christmas carols for Lord Mayor’s Gift Fund

As usual, many of our members joined the local community to sing Christmas carols for the Lord Mayor of Canterbury’s Christmas Gift Fund on Sunday!

There was a magical atmosphere for the event, held in Rose Square on Christmas Eve – with hundreds of people, young and old, joining in the seasonal fun.

There were plenty of the traditional carols as well as jolly favourites such as Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer.

It was lovely to see so many people having such a nice time in a year that has been a struggle for many.

The Lord Mayor of Canterbury was joined on the open topped bus by the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, the Lady Mayoress, the Fund’s Chair (our PP Tony Loughran) and others. Helping with the carols were the Canterbury Salvation Army Band, the St. Stephen’s church choir (with soloist Sophie MacLean) and Lucy Gove.

A collection – which will have raised thousands of pounds – was made during the evening for the Lord Mayor of Canterbury’s Christmas Gift Fund – which is used to buy gifts for the elderly and needy in the local area.

Thank you to all that came along and made the evening so wonderful, and to all who gave so generously to the Fund during the collections in the build up to the evening and on the evening itself.
