Awards for Children’s Christmas/winter-themed Writing Competition

Prizes for our Club’s Primary Writing Competition have all been distributed to youngsters in the local schools that took part.

The children were asked to write an original story with a Christmas/winter theme, unaided and in their own handwriting. Mary McGeary, chair of our Vocational Committee which oversees the competition, said “it was a joy to read all the entries.” She very much encourages schools to take part again in next year’s competition.

This year due to Covid-19 restrictions the prizes couldn’t be given out at school assemblies as we normally do, so they were all delivered to the main office of the prize-winning schools. As always, the competition proved very popular and we had a total of 165 entries. In all, 15 book vouchers were delivered to the six prize winning schools – well done to them all.

The competition, which is open to local schools in the area, was set up by our Vocational Committee in 2016. Through it, we hope to inspire local youngsters to unleash their writing talents and encourage and improve creativity.
