Helping school uniforms find a home

A local private primary school went into receivership recently and parents contacted our Club’s Community Service Committee, via our website, to ask whether we could use old school uniforms for any of the charities we have links with.

After considering options it seemed more appropriate to pass these to Folkestone charity Operation Sunshine, which sends shipping containers full of clothing and various equipment to Zambia. Our International Committee has supported this charity in the past.

We collected 12 bags of shirts, trousers, skirts, blazers and socks and these were taken down to Capel le Ferne where the containers are packed. Past President (PP) Geoff Goodban, as the official receiver, was then able to add a further 10 sacks of clothing and he and  PP John Hill, in his van, delivered them also. The items were gratefully received.

Reflecting on the situation, John said: “I feel this was a good example of the use of the website and co-operation between two of our committees and the charities with which we have connections.”
