Children’s Xmas Story Writing Competition – winners!

On World Book Day we are delighted to announce the winners of our Children’s Short Story Writing Competition, in which youngsters from local schools were invited to send in their Christmas- or winter-themed stories.

Once again, we were very pleased with the response to this annual competition – with over 175 entries coming in from local primary schools. The children, aged 5-11 (years 1-6), had to write their stories unaided and in their own handwriting. Prizes were awarded by school year, with the age of the author taken into account. Through the competition the Club hopes to improve creativity and inspire local youngsters to unleash their writing talents.

The judges, President Alan Mepstead and Rotarian Mary McGeary, were looking for interesting and imaginative stories showing quality and a range of expression, with spelling, grammar and handwriting all taken into account. The judges were so impressed with the high standard of entries this year that they decided to award extra prizes, with 30 winners in total! This year’s winners were from the following schools: Blean, St John’s, Pilgrim’s Way and Kent College Junior.

Because of Covid restrictions, prizes could not be handed out at the schools as they usually would have been; instead, prizes (book tokens) are being sent out and should be received by the children soon.
