Yesterday Santa travelled along the Barton Road route, to the delight of many waiting youngsters (and some slightly older members of the public). “This has become our new family tradition, I stayed up specially for this” laughed one adult who’d come out in her warm dressing gown to wave at Santa!
Each year members of the Rotary Club of Canterbury Sunrise lead this effort in the run-up to Christmas, with members of our Club and the Forest of Blean Rotary Club volunteering as helpers.
As usual, popular Christmas tunes were played as Santa waved to onlookers and called out seasonal greetings. Meanwhile Santa’s helpers knocked on doors as the sleigh went past, inviting donations from residents. The money raised will go towards Canterbury Food Bank and the charities and good causes that “Rotary in Canterbury” supports. Collections of in-date tins of food were also made for the food bank.
So far this year Santa’s Sleigh has visited Salisbury Road, Wincheap, Chartham and Sturry Road; Barton Road was Santa’s 5th outing. If you still want to give Santa a wave you can see him at Howe Barracks (today) and then Spring Lane, London Road, Thanington and Bridge at later dates. For all the latest information & timings please take a look at Sunrise’s Facebook events.
