Helping Rising Sun with a study into abuse

Our Club, together with several other local Rotary Clubs, is helping Rising Sun conduct a study on the effect of counselling on children in families with domestic abuse.

Rising Sun is a Canterbury-based charitable domestic violence and abuse service that supports women and children affected by domestic violence in Canterbury and East Kent. One of the services that they provide is a counselling service. This is designed ‘to help women come to terms with and cope with what has happened, or is happening to them’. The charity’s counsellors ‘listen to women and allow them time to talk about their problems in a neutral yet caring environment’.

Our Club had agree to donate £500 towards a project to study the effect of counselling on children in families with domestic abuse. The study is also being supported by other Rotary Clubs, including the Rotary Clubs of Herne Bay, Canterbury Sunrise and Chestfield. Rotarian Richard Kemball-Cook is working on the counselling and monitoring side of this project.

Our Club’s support has helped cover the charity’s call centre service, the women’s refuge, and other services in the past.
