It was a delight for our Immediate Past President, Rosemary Doyle, to hand over a cheque for £393 to local homeless charity Porchlight’s fundraising officer the other day.
Porchlight was Rosemary’s chosen charity for her Presidential Year, meaning that the funds raised through our Sailor Ted competition would be sent to the charity. This was topped up with money that Rosemary received from hosting our Safari Supper earlier in the year, which Rosemary decided to donate.
Asked why she chose Porchlight. Rosemary responded: “I chose Porchlight for the work they do with young people who have had a difficult start in life, to give them life skills and enable them to lead useful lives.”
Rosemary handed the cheque to Porchlight’s Community and Corporate Fundraising Officer, Abbie Wiggans. In a thank you letter sent to us by Abbie, she writes: “Thank you so much for donating,” and adds: “together, we’re shaping a future where people are protected from the devastation of homelessness”.
You can find out more about Porchlight (and about their “Big Sleep Out” planned for October) here.
