Outing to Brogdale to see the blossom

Around 30 Rotarians and guests had a wonderful outing to Brogdale (near Faversham) the other day. Brogdale is home to the National Fruit Collection and is said to be “a living history & heritage of fruit”.

April is blossom time at Brogdale and thanks to Rotarian Leslie Stephenson organising the trip our Members and their guests had the chance to see the orchards in bloom. The outing was another in the set of activities in this Presidential year on the theme of “The Food we Eat”.

On arrival at Brogdale Farm the visitors were divided into two groups. Each group had its own guide who provided lots of information about the fruit trees during an hour-long walking tour of the orchards. Although some of the blossom had gone over, there was plenty still at its best and lovely to see.

“It was very good to have a guided tour,” said one of the visitors, Past President Martin Ward. “We learned so much more from our guides than we would have done without them.”

After our visit our Members and guests headed to the Alma Pub in Painters Forstal where they were joined by others that hadn’t gone on the tour for a two course lunch & tea/coffee. Talking of the outing, Leslie said: “We were blessed with beautiful warm weather, the ground was dry underfoot, and all-in-all everyone had a very, very nice time!”
