MGSE visit to Shepherd Neame brewery

Malted barley, hops and water are the simple ingredients that go in to making a pint of beer and Shepherd Neame in Faversham has been doing this with great success for more than three hundred years.

Viewing the brewing process and listening to what goes on in the background provided the perfect opportunity for our Mini Group Study Exchange delegates to see at first hand one of Kent’s most successful businesses (and Britain’s oldest brewer). It also provided the opportunity to get up close and personal with several of Shepherd Neame’s beers over a brewery lunch which, in turn, aided the bonding process of the ten MGSE delegates.

One of the Rotary organisers, Martin Ward, commented: “Shepherd Neame is a quintessentially Kent business that uses a large volumes of ingredients produced in the county. Many of the young people enjoy drinking beer, but they had no idea as to how it is made. We are pleased the brewery visit expanded their knowledge whilst at the same time provided an opportunity to get to know each other better in a relaxed social environment.”

We would like to thank Shepherd Neame for welcoming our MGSE delegates to the brewery and providing food (and drink) for thought!
