It’s always nice to be able to help friends, so when Strode Park Foundation, a charity dedicated to providing care and support for people with disabilities, put out a call through our club for help, Rotarians Roger and Irina eagerly stepped up to assist.
Strode Park Foundation is known for its compassionate services and people-centred care, which we had a chance to learn about earlier this summer at its home in Herne. The charity puts on regular events to help raise much-needed funds to support its services.
After a quick training session, Roger and Irina found themselves behind the bar, serving drinks to a lively and cheerful crowd. The concert was filled with energy as the attendees enjoyed the music – which included hits from a wide variety of artists – and festivities. Roger’s own favourites were songs by a tribute act from the band Queen. Despite a brief delay due to a broken generator, the event proved a great success.
After the event Irina humorously remarked that the experience confirmed one thing for her: she’ll never be buying a pub! Nevertheless, both were very pleased to help out. The Foundation later expressed gratitude for all the volunteers’ efforts. The evening’s success was a testament to the power of community spirit, with proceeds going towards enhancing the lives of those the foundation serves.

With many thanks to Rotarian Roger Hickman for the write up.
