Dear Future Self writing competition 2025

Have you heard about our “Dear Future Self” writing competition?  Open to secondary school, 6th form college (or equivalent) students in Kent, East Sussex or West Sussex, it’s an exciting way for youngsters to unleash their creativity, look to the future, and win £100! Do spread the word!

We invite youngsters to write a unique message to their imagined future selves – for the 2025 challenge youngsters are asked to compose a message to their future self about one of the following:

  • a job that they think they might take up one day
  • the British monarchy
  • the changes that might have taken place in Canterbury/the local area.

The prizes are:

  • 1st prize: £100
  • 2nd prize: £50
  • 3rd prize: £25.

Entries are by email and there is no entry fee. All that’s necessary is that entries meet the challenge set out in the rules below and comply with those rules. A panel of judges consider all entries and choose the winning entries.

*Check out the rules here to find more about the subject and how to enter.

Deadline: 31st January 2025!

The competition, which we first ran during the the Covid19-pandemic, has resulted in some very well thought out entries during past years – entries which the judges have really enjoyed reading.

“It’s a pleasure to bring this competition back again this year thanks to the support of a kind donor. We hope it will inspire youngsters to come up with some unusual and creative thoughts and ideas,” said Brian Dobinson, a member of our Vocational Committee that runs the event in association with Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU) and with support from CCCU/STEM Hub.
