Purple crocuses in bloom!

What, other than a bit of sun and warm weather, suggests that spring is nearly here? Our Purple4Polio crocuses, of course! Look out for them everywhere around Canterbury!

Many Rotarians, their friends, family & contacts bought bags of crocuses last year in support of Rotary in Great Britain and Northern Ireland (RGBI) as part of its Purple4Polio/End Polio Now project – to help raise funds to rid the world of polio. Including matched funding by the Bill and Melissa Gates Foundation we raised around £4500 ….many thanks to all those that supported us.

We’re delighted to see that some of these crocuses, variety Crocus tommasinianus (Ruby Giant), are now coming into bloom. They’re all around homes and other sites in Canterbury and in nearby villages including Bridge, Rough Common, Littlebourne, Ickham, Wickhambreaux and Stodmarsh. Don’t forget we also planted some in Westgate Gardens and by St Dunstan’s Church on World Polio Day in October. Have a look out for them next time you’re out having your daily exercise. If you take any pictures of your own crocuses or of ones in public places, please do share your pictures with us via FacebookTwitter and Instagram – just tag us (@rotarycanterbury on Facebook; @RotaryCantUK on Twitter; and rotaryclubofcanterbury on Instagram) and add the hashtag #rotarycanterburycrocuses and #purple4polio
