Collecting for The Lord Mayor of Canterbury’s Christmas Gift Fund

Some of our Members volunteered their time to help collect for The Lord Mayor of Canterbury’s Christmas Gift Fund – something that we try to help with each year.

It was a really cold day – but that wasn’t going to stop our Members and others helping with the collection, held in Rose Square (just outside Primark). They were to be found beside “Dorothea” – a pretty street organ that plays lots of popular tunes. Dorothea was brought along thanks to Roger Burville and his son, David (of Repair Shop fame); for past collections they’ve bought another amazing machine – the Mortier Organ – which many people will remember seeing.

The music certainly helped people get in the festive spirit, and even the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress came by to lend a hand. Many thanks to all those who generously supported the cause. Around £825 was raised towards this year’s collection.

Our Members hope to be at Rose Square again on the 24th December (6.15pm – 7.15pm) – joining members of the Fund for the Annual Community Carol Singing. Do come along, it is always enormous fun!

The Gift Fund is a local charity that has been established for 70 years and distributes gifts in the name of the Lord Mayor to elderly, isolated, vulnerable and needy individuals and families in Canterbury and the surrounding villages. Our President, Tony Loughran, is the Fund’s current Chair, while our President Elect, Rosemary Doyle, serves on the Committee. You can learn more about The Lord Mayor of Canterbury’s Christmas Gift Fund, or make a donation, here.
