Rotarians attend concert that raised funds for local charities

Being a Rotarian means that you have friends with which you can enjoy local events. A few of our members & guests recently attended a concert by cellist Theodoor Heyning; over £300 was raised for local charities through donations at the event.

Theodoor is a young musician from the Netherlands, and the event on the afternoon of 7th August was the second Summer Concert that he’s played at the Yoga Studio at Highfield House in Harbledown, Canterbury. There was an audience of around 30 people in total, including the Rotarians.

PP Richard Kemball-Cook introduced the 50-minute programme for solo cello, which included pieces by Johann Sebastian Bach, Toshiro Mayuzumi and Benjamin Britten.

Refreshments were served in the sunshine and £330 in donations raised for two Canterbury charities: The Rising Sun for victims of domestic abuse (https://www.risingsunkent.com/) and the Prince of Wales Youth Club, an award-winning club that seeks to provide young people with new skills to combat the challenges they now face (https://www.princeofwalesyouthclub.co.uk/).

Theodoor is likely to be visiting his family in Kent again in summer 2023 and is open to suggestions for performing in private venues.
