Bat & Trap competition Summer 2024: an evening of fun and fierce rivalry!

Last Friday saw a spirited evening of both camaraderie and rivalry when a team from our club joined teams from the two other local Rotary Clubs (Forest of Blean and Sunrise) for an inter-club Bat & Trap competition – now one of our regular events.

Held at the Golden Lion Pub, Broad Oak, the event had over 45 attendees come along, all eager to witness and participate in the traditional Kentish sport.

The Forest of Blean team, rumoured to be the favourites, quickly demonstrated why they held that title. Their consistent practice sessions paid off as they delivered a strong performance, leading the scoreboard for most of the evening.

Despite having a smaller team, Canterbury Sunrise showed that determination and skill could rival numbers. They put up a commendable fight, managing to bowl out some of the top players from the other clubs and proving that size doesn’t always determine success.

Our club’s members brought their own strengths to the field, and we managed to showcase a few standout players. We also took the opportunity to introduce some new members and guests to the game, ensuring that the fun and competitive spirit of Bat & Trap reached an even wider audience!

As predicted, the Forest of Blean Rotary Club emerged victorious, taking home the coveted cup. The award was presented by our Club’s President Elect, Raj Dasan, in a celebratory moment following an excellent buffet supper provided by the venue.

The evening was not just about the competition but also about fostering friendships and community spirit, making it a memorable event for everyone involved.

With many thanks to Rotarian Roger Hickman for the write up.
