A bit of a change: Barham Village Hall

Our new President, Neil Fraser, resolved to have some changes at our club…and one of the first was to have one of our regular meetings at Barham Village Hall, rather than our usual St Lawrence Cricket Ground venue in Canterbury.

It certainly was a good day for it – with the sun out it was a nice, scenic drive into Barham, and earlier some of our members, partners and guests had visited Simpson’s Wine Estate nearby for a vineyard tour and tasting (more about that in another article coming soon) as part of President Neil’s first event.

With the high ceiling the room was nice and airy – which we needed in the potentially record-breaking heat! It was lovely to see many members had also brought their partners along to the meeting, and we also had visitors from the Rotary Club of Canterbury Sunrise and the Rotary Club of Folkestone (all three live in the village).

In place of our usual meal we had a cold buffet, ably prepared by the outside caterers. Our members enjoyed each other’s company on long tables that gave us a chance to have a nice chat with each other. Gingham tablecloths added to the countryside atmosphere.

All-in-all the change in venue was a great success, and we look forward to other ‘alternative’ meetings ahead.

(With grateful thanks to PP Alan Forrest, who cordinated the event and arrangements.)
