Every time the Pentangular Meeting is hosted in one of the five participating countries, each club donates to the host Club’s charity of choice. This year, President Harry found himself therefore in the fortunate position of being able to give away £2,500 in the name of the Rotary Club of Canterbury, with the generous support of the Rotary Clubs of St. Quentin, Ludenscheid, Leuven and Leiden.

At the end of June, President Harry Cragg and Pentangular Officer Alastair Scott visited the Cobbes Meadow Riding and Driving Group – an independent charity with an affiliation to Riding for the Disabled. Participants (adults as well as children) with various learning and physical disabilities are given the opportunity of enjoying horse riding and developing their social and communication skills through Equine Assisted Learning under the expert guidance of volunteers.

Each rider is given individual tailored tuition and is enabled to gain confidence and self-esteem through the experience of riding on a horse. The interaction with trainers and other riders provides an opportunity for building on social and communication skills as well as making new friends.

The £1,250 donation from Rotary will be used towards the purchase of a special adaptable saddle (£3,000) which will make the scheme accessible to a greater number of potential young users.
