The Way Forward: Looking to the Future…

We live in a rapidly changing world and the Club is rising to the challenge of ensuring Rotary in Canterbury is as relevant and vibrant in the 21st century as it was early in the 20th century.

In 2008 we took a critical look at the way the club is developing and resolved upon a rolling programme of change to be reviewed annually.

  1. Service to the local and international community is central to the club.
  2. Maximise involvement of members in the projects and fundraising.
  3. Hands on involvement where possible e.g. visits to India and Ghana.
  4. New and more adventurous events e.g. Dinners in interesting venues.
  5. Start informal “Pub Night” Meetings and Theatre trips.
  6. Active involvement with other Rotary Clubs in Canterbury District.
  7. Continue our Pentangular Meetings with four European Clubs
  8. Seek publicity to make public aware of what we offer.
  9. Modernise our administration by development of email use.
  10. Launch a new website for internal and external communication.
  11. Gain more enjoyment from Rotary due to this increased involvement.
  12. Stabilise membership at about seventy men and women, valuing the contribution of older members and younger working members.

Service to the local community and to the wider international community is central to the aims and objectives of the club.

Fellowship, which is a Rotary term meaning friendship and enjoyable social activity, is best developed through the medium of service.

We are determined that our members will actively work together, wherever possible in a hands-on manner, to achieve our service objectives and to raise the necessary funds to carry them out.

The club meets mainly at lunchtime, but this year we have increased the number of evening meetings for the benefit of those members who normally work during the day.
