Duck Race 2010

More than £5,500 has been raised for local and international charities thanks to 3,500 plastic ducks floating down the River Stour.

The Canterbury Rotary Club’s Annual duck race took place on Saturday July 3rd and attracted huge numbers of spectators in Westgate Gardens, who followed the bathtime friends down the river from Toddler’s Cove to Tower House.

Duck number 556, belonging to Christopher Gilbody, was first across the finishing line in just under 20 minutes.  Mr Gilbody, son-in-law of city councillor and Rotarian Rosemary Doyle, won a first prize of £250.

In the Corporate race, red duck number 10 saw Paul Roberts Architects take the honours and receive a case of champagne.

All the money raised goes back to local ind international charities and it costs us absolutely nothing to stage this event.
