Mini Group Study Exchange (MGSE)

The 2025 MGSE will take place in Canterbury, between Sunday 17th August and Sunday 24th August

Mini Group Study Exchange

Are you aged between 18-25, looking to broaden your horizons, are interested in international cooperation, would like to be an ambassador for Canterbury Rotary and improve your CV – all at the same time?

What is the Mini Group Study Exchange?
The Rotary Club of Canterbury has established contact Clubs in four European Countries: France (St Quentin), Belgium (Leuven), Germany (Lüdenscheid) and Holland (Leiden). The Clubs meet each year by rotation in one of the five countries and undertake a number of joint ventures.

One of the activities is the annual Mini Group Study Exchange (MGSE), where each club arranges for two young people from each of the member towns to meet together for a week of social, cultural and educational activities. The purpose is to learn more of each other and their countries and to establish friendships, which often last for many years.

What happens?
Each year our Club invites applicants via our website and other social media and then selects two ‘ambassadors’ to attend. The annual exchange usually takes place in August/September.

In 2025 Canterbury is hosting MGSE between 17th and 24th August

The Rotary Club has an exciting programme of events lined-up for the young people across the week. Items include visits to The Houses of Parliament, a BBC studio, and a heritage steam railway. The participants will also see first hand the best of what East Kent has to offer from its beaches to its stunning countryside – and of course its pubs!

For many past participants, the MGSE week is the start of life-long friendships.

Who can apply?
If you are between 18 and 25 years of age, from the Canterbury area and able to demonstrate that you can benefit from this wonderful opportunity to mix with people from different nations and cultures, then you are welcome to apply.

You are asked to also demonstrate the following:

  1. How you will benefit personally from being part of this international gathering
  2. How your selection will contribute to benefit of the other participants.
  3. You will be an ambassador of the Rotary Club of Canterbury and therefore we ask that you demonstrate the ability to represent the Club.

What does it cost?
The event costs the participants nothing other than their personal spending money. The Rotary Club of Canterbury contributes directly to the registration and participation costs.

The deadline for applications is Friday 9th May 2025
