The award, which was initially set up in 2002 to mark the Queen’s Golden Jubilee, is the highest award that a group in the voluntary sector can receive and is the equivalent to an MBE.
Regular readers will know of our support for the Club and will be aware of the joint fundraising events that we’ve organised. The President of the POWYC Board of Trustees, Tim Brett, is a PP of our Club, as are Philip Abbott and Mike Talbot, two other POWYC Trustees. Our President Elect, Neil Fraser. who will soon take over as Pesident of our Club, has aready announced that the youth club will be one of his three chosen charities for the year ahead (alongside the Salvation Army and the Samaritans) when he set out his plans for his Presidential year.
Our congratualtions to the organisers, members and supporters of the youth club. It’s been rewarding to see the Club’s growth, especially in terms of the activities offered. These now range from dancing to martial arts.
Special congratulations to Joey Wicks, Centre Co-ordinator who has worked tirelessly for the youth club. Finally, a special “thank you” to all who have supported the youth club in recent years – whether it be as volunteers, fundraisers or as attendees at events.
We look forward to working together over the year ahead to help encourage, support and promote the youth of Canterbury.
