Had a quacking time at our Annual Duck Race! Despite fears of fowl weather our fine feathered friends were able to take to the water on the bird (word) go! Off they went and we wished them ‘Good Duck’ (luck)! Canterbury Lifesavers kept our left wing ducks, right wing ducks and even our sitting ducks in the current and on target. Feathers were almost flying as our vocifeorous bird watchers cheered the ducks on. Luckily, no-one quacked under pressure and folk from Rotary and Canterbury Lifesavers in the water made sure we got the last bird (and word). The finale was really egg-citing and duck number 2406 was egg-claimed as the the lucky duck who won 1st prize! All-in-all a great time!
Many thanks to all of you who came to cheer on the ducks, sponsor ducks (individual and corporate), visit our stalls (at the park and on previous days at Morrisons and Whitefriars, Iconic and Fitzgeralds) and help create a lovely family-friendly atmosphere. Thanks to Canterbury Cathedral and all others who helped spread the bird (word). Special thanks of course go to Canterbury Lifesavers and Fellow Rotarians who braved the cold water, to St John’s Ambulance Brigade, the local PCSOs, The environment agency and council, the folks at Westgate Parks, Fellow Rotarians and Inner Wheel members and their friends who helped everything run smoothly and safely.
Hope you all had a great time! We raised thousands of pounds for charity.
