Recent collaborations with other Canterbury clubs

There are three Rotary clubs in Canterbury, each with its own character and projects. Nevertheless, we try where possible to support each other’s activities – something we find enjoyable too.

Recently there have been several occasions when we have interacted with the other Canterbury clubs (Rotary Canterbury Sunrise and Forest of Blean).

For instance, our President Rosemary Doyle and others joined Sunrise at their meeting at Canterbury Umbrella Centre* during which Sunrise’s immediate past president Sinitta Nightingale presented a cheque for £500 on behalf of their club to the Centre. Sinitta’s presidential year had a focus on supporting and highlighting mental health, so it was fitting for them to pay a visit to the Centre.

Some of our members, together with members of Canterbury Forest of Blean Rotary, also joined Sunrise for a visit to Nonington Farms. There, they learnt about sustainable farming and the work of supplying local communities with produce.

Earlier this year we supported Sunrise during the regional finals of the Rotary Young Chef Competition; we also attended a special “Beyond the Box” evening at Archbishop’s School that Sunrise had set up to showcase ShelterBox’s “outstanding work” to support displaced people who have lived through conflict or disaster. At that meeting our Treasurer, Jim Gascoyne, was able to present ShelterBox with a cheque for £500 on behalf of our International Committee.

One of our members also assisted Forest of Blean with their Classic Motor & Music Show held at Canterbury Rugby Club in support of the Pilgrims Hospice and other local charities.

We now look forward to our inter-club Bat & Trap challenge later this summer – we’re sure there will be lots of friendly rivalry to be had!
