Knitted hats for newborn Ukranian babies

140 knitted hats for newborn babies, knitted by members of a local U3A knitting group, will be sent to Ukraine via Rotary District 1120.

Earlier this year a report from the International Rotary Fellowship of Healthcare Professionals highlighted, among other things, the need for hats for newborns. “Often considered an adornment, hats for newborn babies may be life-saving.” They called on Rotarians to to take part in a project to knit hats and asked us to reach out to friends and family. And this is just what we did, reaching out to those that we thought might be able to help.

Fortunately, a local U3A knitting group (based in Whitstable) were happy to join in, and we were delighted to be told about the 140 hats that they had knitted; these will now be sent to Ukraine via our Rotary District. One of the members of the knitting group, Val Reid, stated: “I think we all enjoyed knitting the hats and thought we we able to do something positive”.

Our Members have been delighted to hear of this support. As one Member put it, “we are amazed by Val’s U3A group, knitting so many hats in only three weeks !” Another added: “we all are amazed by their efforts and thank them very much on behalf of the Club.”
