Our Club has a variety of members – some of whom still work, while others are retired. It is this mix that makes our club so interesting. We all learn from each other and bring different skills and knowledge to the table.
Keji joined our Club in February this year – though she attended several online and face-to-face meetings before that to get familiar with the Club and our Members. Since joining, Keji has played an active role in several of our activities, such as our Taste of the East event and helping fundraise for Marie Curie UK. She gave her talk to us at the HQ of Canterbury Rugby Club, which is not our usual venue of St Lawrence Cricket Ground.
Keji’s career started at the City of London Police where she worked as a project adminstrator for a couple of years. She then went on to work as a communications officer for the Metropolitan Police Service. Also, interestingly, she worked as a resource planner for the MET, as a 999 call dispatcher, and she helped with flexible working applications for over 200 police officers and staff.
In 2021 she joined the Department for Work & Pensions (DWP) as a work coach. During her time there she also worked with single parents and families with pre-school aged children. She’s also trained others as work coaches.
In 2020 Keji also founded Mayah’s Legacy, a charitable organisation which aims to raise awareness of the mental health impact and long-term effects that follow pregnancy loss, helping families to embrace hope and process grief. It 2022 she set up Goddess Hub CIC; this provides perinatal emotional support to improve the mental and emotional wellbeing of mothers.
For most people this might take up all of their time – but Keji also somehow finds the time to have more than a dozen voluntary roles! For example, as well as being a Rotarian she is also an executive member and communications officer for Canterbury Soroptimists – a worldwide organisation of women linked to the United Nations.
We look forward to working more with Keji over the coming weeks and months.
