Well done to Canterbury’s Inner Wheel Club for raising almost £1,000 for brain injury charity Headway Kent during its “Quiz and Chips” fundraiser – which several of our members went along to support.
For those of you who have never heard of Inner Wheel – it’s an international women’s organization that aims to create friendship, service, and understanding. It was set up in 1924 and, originally, was for wives and daughters of Rotarians. It is now an independent organisation that is open to all women.
Rotarians and Inner Wheel members often work together – and such was the case the other day when several of our members (President Maxine Blades, President Elect Raj Dasan, PPs Rosemary Doyle, and Viv Pritchard, and Rotarians Irina Marta and Aruna Jago-Brown) and their guests went along to a fundraiser organised by Canterbury’s Inner Wheel club for brain injury charity Headway Kent. (The event was one of several that Canterbury Inner Wheel has planned to mark their centenary, which actually falls on the 22nd April 2025.)
Held in the Baker White Memorial Hall in Lower Hardres, the event was billed as a “Quiz and Chips” supper, and attendees enjoyed a fish and chip supper (with accompaniments including pickled onions, gherkins and mushy peas, of course) plus a challenging quiz.
“The quiz was mind-bending,” said Irina, “so we were delighted to come second!” She gave credit for this in large part to Rosemary’s “quiz mastery”!
Commenting on the event, Maxine said: “We were delighted to help Inner Wheel mark their centenary and also join in with their fundraiser. Headway Kent is such a great charity helping people with brain injuries”. She congratulated the club for raising almost £1,000 from the event – and also congratulated the members on their centenary. “We’re looking forward to joining in with other celebrations they have planned to mark their centenary,” she added.
