We’re very pleased to share news from Canterbury City Council about this year’s Great Stour Riverfest, to be held 14th-22nd September. Don’t forget our Duck Race falls on the last day of Riverfest, Sunday 22nd September. Note: it’s free to come along to the Duck Race, no booking required (although you can sponsor a duck – or several ducks – in the run up to the race from our stall in Whitefriars, Canterbury on the 4th, 7th, 14th and 21st September; there will be a limited number of ducks available for sponsoring on race day too). £250 prize for the winning duck, plus other prizes too!

Exciting free local events news!
Tickets can now be snapped up for a range of fantastic free activities taking place as part of this year’s Great Stour Riverfest.
The festival, which celebrates all things environmental, historical and cultural about the city’s river, runs from Saturday 14 to Sunday 22 September and is organised by us in partnership with many local community organisations.
From punting tours and river walks, to arts and crafts sessions and evening talks, there’s so much for people of all ages to get involved in and enjoy.
All are free of charge, but spaces at many events are limited, so booking is required via the festival’s Eventbrite page, here.
Cabinet member for biodiversity and open spaces, Cllr Mel Dawkins, said: “It’s a second brilliant year for Riverfest with a programme of events that’s bursting at the seams.
“What a wonderful opportunity to get out and about, enjoy our stunning local environment and learn more about our beautiful river and the wildlife that calls it home.”
The festival opens with a Riverfest fair in the Westgate Gardens where everyone is welcome and no tickets are required. This will feature a number of stalls where visitors can find out more about the Great Stour, watch demonstrations and take part in hands-on activities for all the family.
And there’s the chance to sponsor a duck for Canterbury Rotary Club’s annual duck race, which brings the festival to a close on 22 September.
