Donation to POWYC for lunch packs for needy children

Our Millennium Scholarship Trust Fund was set up by our Club to help young people wanting to volunteer overseas; given the current crisis, we are delighted to be using £1,000 of these funds to support the Prince of Wales Youth Club distribute lunch packs.

Funds from the Millennium Scholarship Trust Fund  (MSTF) are usually used to “to advance the education of young people who live, work or study in Canterbury and to instil principles of good citizenship by providing financial assistance to those who wish to give service to a local or overseas community through a scheme or project run by a nationally recognised charity.”

Given the current unprecedented situation as a result of the Covid-19 epidemic, our Members have agreed to the donation of £1,000 from the Fund to the Prince of Wales Youth Club (POWYC) to help them look after needy children by providing them with some healthy packed lunches. To this sum we added another £550 from our Club’s funds; the POWYC is one of President Neil Fraser’s three special “President’s charities” for his  Presidential year. The news was greeted with much excitement by Joey Wicks, the POWYC’s Centre Coordinator.

The POWYC has been inundated with requests (100 requests within an hour earlier in the week!) Their volunteers were busy packing last night, and today alone the POWYC distributed 467 packed lunches (along with fun resource packs) in the local area. The POWYC is also including a wellbeing worksheet for the parents, along with some tea bags, coffee, hot chocolate sachets, milk pods and sugar sachets (via the Centre and the Early Years project). Their furthest delivery is Wickhambreaux, to a family that are in real isolation.

The POWYC plans to carry on with this much-needed initiative until they run out of funding, so do please contact them if you are able to help with fundraising or donations. We are sure these will be much appreciated.
