Awards for Children’s Christmas-themed Writing Competition 2019

We’re delighted to have been out recently giving awards to winners of our Children’s Christmas-themed Writing Competition for 2019 at Pilgrims Way Primary School, St John’s C of E Primary School, Blean Primary School, and Kent College Junior School.

Chair of our Vocational Committee, Mary McGeary, and our President Elect, Alan Mepstead, enjoyed visiting the participating Primary Schools – all of which are in the Canterbury area. It’s now our fourth year of running the Competition.

The Competition is designed to encourage children to develop strong writing skills at a young age, in the knowledge that the development of good literacy skills has a lifelong positive impact on their future learning and is also therapeutic. Writing is an important element of education; as writers, we are communicating ideas – either our own ideas or those of others.

“Encouraging children to channel their inner author helps them lose their fear of the blank page and develop a lifelong love of both reading and writing,” says Mary. “We look forward to continuing our Writing Competition next academic year,” she added.

Well done to all the students who entered the Competition and congratulations to our prizewinners for submitting excellent stories – the standard was indeed high.
